A strong logo represents its organization clearly and consistently. When the many departments, offices and centers at Washington University all use the official logos, a unified visual identity emerges. As this identity gains recognition, individual labs, departments and centers contribute to and benefit from the reputation of the institution as a whole.

Depending on the site’s affiliation with the university, either the Washington University in St. Louis logo or the Washington University School of Medicine logo will display in the header. Logos should never be altered or edited in anyway.

The strongest, most recognized identity that can be projected is that of the university itself. While other divisions can have a separate identity and logo, they should still support the overall university visual identity and be placed in the footer. This will provide separation between the two logos.

Design Considerations

There are a few different versions of the university and School of Medicine logos, however the digital logo is the only one approved for websites. The digital logo is a one-line logo that is meant to take up less vertical real estate than the other logos. It’s short height makes it ideal for placing in the header on its own row.
