Calendars visually represent dates and provide information about events. Various display views integrate to create a cohesive experience for selecting dates and accessing event information.
There are currently two calendar solutions in place for the WashU Web Theme: Calendar⁺ and Event Organiser. Sites hosted by Campus Press have Calendar⁺ available and sites hosted locally by WashU may use Event Organiser. Both calendar solutions are styled the same with minor differences, so the descriptions below apply to both solutions unless otherwise indicated.
Calendar Grid
The calendar grid displays multiple dates and events in a format visually similar to a desk or wall calendar.
Example
Display Options
By default, the calendar will display events by month. Site admins can change the default view from month to week, day, or agenda. Site visitors may also use the controls at the top of the calendar to change the view according to their preference.

Event detail preview
Site visitors can preview event details while still in the calendar grid view. This is an area where the two calendar solution experiences vary.
Calendar⁺
Details preview in a pop-over window upon clicking the event. Users navigate to the full event detail page by following the “read more” link in the pop-over. Location and add-to-calendar links are included in the event preview.
Event Organiser
Details preview as a tooltip on hover. Users navigate to the full event detail page by clicking on the event or by following the “read more” link in the tooltip. Location and add-to-calendar links can only be accessed on the full detail page.
Event List
The event list displays events in a single-column format including event title, date, time, category and location information. A red box prominently features the month and day for ease of scanning and to provide visual structure for the list.
Users can access the detail page for each event in the list by clicking on the event title. If the event is assigned to one or more categories, users can navigate to an event list filtered by the selected category by clicking on the category name.
Example
Single Event
A single event displays all information associated with a given event including the title, date, time, category, location, featured image and event description.
From a single event, users can navigate to the full events list with the breadcrumb link at the top of the listing. If the event is assigned to one or more categories, users can navigate to an event list filtered by the selected category by clicking on the category name.
A single event may also display a map of the event location and add to calendar links dependent on the calendar solution used.
Example
Sidebar Widgets
Sidebar widgets display information about events in a smaller, abbreviated format in the right sidebar area, below page navigation.

There are a variety of widgets available with each calendar solution.
